1000 words of Manx in 2014

People will be aware that 2014 has been designated as Island of Culture in Mannin. We’ve loads of projects underway that, I hope, will ensue the 2014 celebrations involves a great deal of Manx Gaelic but I thought I’d let you know now about three in particular.
Our first project is the 1000 words of Manx in a year challenge in which volunteers will aim to learn a few words each day and hopefully a 1000 by the end of the year. The words, with accompanying sound files, will be posted here but you can also contact me hereto join the mailing list of those brave volunteers who will receive an e-mail with a link five times a week, together with occasional words of encouragement. If there are a few people in your office who would like to give it a go then I can come and visit you during the year to provide you with additional lessons and support!
Our second project is a Manx Gaelic Video a day. Each of our 365 videos for 2014 will be posted on Youtube here and the series should build up to provide people with an excellent introduction to the language. We filmed most of the material during the summer so they will also showcase the beauty of our Island.
The final project which is suitable for absolute beginners is our new Podcast series which will be available here. We will be releasing a couple of new lessons every week and these again will build up to provide a really excellent introduction to the language.
We hope all three projects will provide beginners, improvers, skilled speakers of Manx and those that have fallen by the wayside over the years with a fun and exciting way to engage with the language in 2014.
Let me know if you’d like to join the mailing list for the 1000 words challenge whilst you can also follow all that’s going on by joining us on twitter, facebook andyoutube
Anyway, Nollick Ghennal to you all and remember when you are thinking of new year’s resolutions for 2014 make sure ‘I must learn more Manx in 2014’ is at the top of your list!
