Manx Zoom Society

The Manx Zoom Society met at Noon Eastern time on November 23, 2024.  Five people participated.  We started a bit late due to technical difficulties so thanks to all who were patient.

We began the meeting welcoming a new member to her first zoom meeting.  She is applying to the Isle for dual citizenship. If any have helpful advice please contact Stephen Schaitberger and he will pass your contact information forward.

The members shared their experience of the Advent/Christmas seasons.  It was amazing how many similar customs we shared with one other.  Especially Advent wreaths and calendars. Most of us also did the stringing of popcorn and cranberries on real trees.  Many of us put the trees in the yard so the birds could enjoy the decorations.

The program of the day came from the book The Folklore of the Isle of Man by Margaret Killip. We read from her chapter on Old Christmas and the Oie’l Voirrey (Eve of the Feast of Mary). It inspired a lively discussion of appreciation of folklore we experienced in our youth.

We agreed to meet next on Saturday January 4, 2025 at 12 noon Eastern time.  Anyone seeking to receive a link please contact the info below.
