The theme for this meeting was celebrating Hop-tu-naa we had a short presentation and a Manx craft of a spooky halloween Bat.
Second Last Meeting Thursday March 5th 2020 5pm to 7pm
We gathered at the Good Earth around 5:30 for a meeting filled with fun and good food. This meeting theme was wildflowers that are in bloom on the island around this time of year. As we were setting up Sally shared a fun fact about the table flags she brings to the meetings and that is that they are all from the 1984 convention. We ordered and ate some delicious seasonal food from the excellent wait staff and settled down for the flower presentation where we learned that the Cushag is the unofficial national flower. They have wildflower walks on the IOM and you can find out more information about that at www.manxwildflowers.com. We also had a handout with about 37 flowers that are blooming on the island this time of year with a small article at the end about the honey bees. After we welcomed a member back by going around and sharing all our family stories with Doug Cain starting with Pat Boehne one of the 1979 founding members. He shared with us his father was Donald Cain and their relatives were from Peel. We then had the raffle which included some Manx items and some spring time flower arrangements donated by Peggy. The meeting wound down with more stories and chatting until it was time to go.
Next Meeting
The Next Meeting was to be held at Pat Boehne’s Condo on Saturday April 18th but due to the pandemic COVID-19 it has been decided to postpone this meeting till a later date. We will try to hold a Skype meeting around the original date if possible and we would email out instruction beforehand so everyone who would like attend can attend even if you are not familiar with Skype. Unfortunately we may not be able to gather in person as much this year but we will still keep in contact and start meeting again as soon as it is safe to do so.
